Luxury fashion has a new target audience this season. It is not catering to movie stars, high-powered businesswomen and socialites alone. In New York, luxury fashion is targeting the Gen Y.

Ed Jay, Senior Vice President of American Express Business Insights asserts that new customers are getting into luxury fashion in a way they were not before the recession, while Long-time clients who bought full-ticket designer clothes aren't buying as much as they used to. This could be blamed on the economy. Facts suggest that the percent of Gen Y fashionistas opting for high-end luxury fashion is on the rise because they are greatly being encouraged by the ease of online purchases.

New York Fashion Week saw lots of furs and textural mink making a mark on the runways, this year. But, whether Gen Y will buy real fur-accented clothes remains to be seen considering the mainstreaming of veganism and animal rights. While, designers hope their new collections will inspire spending by new and old customers, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that Fashion Week has become an extremely profitable enterprise for New York with the two yearly shows likely to generate an economic impact of USD 865 million for the city this year.

As I was helping my husband get dressed for a very special occasion, I helped him pick which of his two Longines watches to wear. I feel bad for my friend, whose husband doesn't even really appreciate how gorgeous she is when she's all done up in her finest. While it shouldn't be a fixation, I think it's important to have special occasions for us to look our best. They provide crowning moments in our lives. They are a wonderful way to celebrate being alive and enjoy the fruits of all the hard work we do to.
